Happy Summer! We are in full boat prep mode. We took some photos of our apartment and I am getting all sentimental leaving our first place that we have had together, but we are excited to be on the boat by next weekend. Can you believe it?
This weekend is supposed to be very toasty in San Diego, CA. As we prepare for life on the boat and hot San Diego weekends, we’re thinking more and more about how much sun we are getting. Here are some of our favorite things to let us be on the ocean, but take care of the ocean and ourselves.
This is one of my favorite finds. This was in last summer’s Causebox and ever since then, I have been hooked. This is a Zinc stick that is great for long sun exposure and when you are in the water. This is a jojoba, avocado, coconut oil based product. This is an organic based sunscreen that is nano-particle free, allowing it to be safe for the ocean. This Morro Bay, California based company has really developed a great product!
We love this sunscreen because it is paraben free, but biodegradable, making it safe for the ocean. Sometimes the paraben free sunscreens run off easily in the water, but this is built for being in the water. This is a mineral sunscreen and it has aloe vera, green tea, and chamomile in it to soothe your skin while wearing this. This sunscreen also comes in spray form if this suits you better!
Sun Protection Clothing
This one is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it while living on the boat. This is made with double knit polyester that provides 50 SPF while out on the water. This is a great way to have a light cover that will allow room to breath, unlike wearing a jacket, but protects your skin. This does run a little small, so sizing up is helpful if you like some room to breathe. They make this for men as well. We love any of our Patagonia products and think that the price is worth it due to their warranty policy. Patagonia will repair your clothing for you or buy it back.
My hair and skin does not do well with constant salt water and sunshine. I needed to do something to give a little extra hydration, besides my normal shampoo and conditioner. You put this in your hair when your hair is damp. For me, I put it in after the shower or after a rinse off from being in the ocean. This helps to immediately restore my hair and leaves it smelling great! This has jojoba oil, tea tree, and peppermint oils. This is one of my favorites and I love rubbing any extra on my skin after!
Kai gets extra hot on our boat and when we are camping. We found this vest. You get it wet, wring it out, and place it on your dog. She actually loves it and has been staying a lot cooler. With her hot fur, this was the perfect solution for us!
We hope that you are enjoying your summer, but staying cool in the heat and safe in the sun!
